CDA #8 (The Relationship of Work Values to College and Careers)
Money values: What gives one coin or bill more value than another? Does play money have any value? What if it is play money in a Monopoly game?
Other examples of what has value (both tangible and intangible)
Value has several meanings. One is the monetary worth of an object or item that is how much someone would actually pay for it or, perhaps, how much it would cost to replace it. Another meaning is a more personal measure of worth, such as how important the things, beliefs, principles or ideas are to an individual. Different people value intangible things differently, meaning they have more or less value to each individual. The ideals, beliefs, and principles that are of worth to you shape your values. Our values help define who we are, help determine our behavior, and help us decide what type of career we could like.
Work Values worksheet. Rank the values 1-6 in order of importance to them personally – but they need to listen to every description before they rate them. That is, as they think about their most ideal work situation, what value would their job offer? That would be their number 1; the second most important value that their ideal job should offer would be number 2, and so on. Give students a few minutes to rank their values after descriptions have been read.
Work Values Auction
Did your team win the value that you rated #1 for yourself personally? What value appears to be the least in demand for this class? Can you think of a group of people for whom this work value might be of key importance? What value brought the highest bid? Does that make it the best value? Is there any single work value that you think is totally unimportant to your personal job satisfaction?
